Primary Job Functions:
-2 years power generation project development experience resulting in the financing and construction of existing utility scale power plants overseas or in Japan;
-Alternatively, 5 years real estate development experience resulting in the financing and construction of large-scale projects in Japan;
-Experience in both rapidly growing organizations and large multi-national, public companies preferred;
-Sound technical background including understanding of PV systems in the commercial and industrial market segment is a plus;
-Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in Japan.
-Demonstrated track record of developing power plant and/or real estate projects through financing, construction, and commercial operation in Japan and/or internationally;
-Strong project management, commercial acumen, and business leadership skills;
-Negotiation and execution skills for commercial development, partnership and financing deals;
-Must have demonstrated ability to coordinate and multi-task a variety of activities including cross-functional interaction internally and externally;
-Ability to interface successfully with local communities, regulators, and utilities;
-Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communications skills in Japanese. Fluency in English a plus;
-Responsible for building a large pipeline of solar power plant project approvals in Japan. This will include sourcing project sites, negotiating land agreements with site owners, obtaining project local approvals, obtaining METI project certification, securing interconnection rights from utilities, and negotiating PPAs with utilities;
-Diligence and acquire partially developed project positions. Projects can range from early stage development opportunities to sites holding attractive interconnection position and METI certification. Portfolio and multi-stage, multi-site project acquisition opportunities are typical;
-Development areas of focus include project site assessment, land purchase/leases, electric interconnection, power purchase agreement negotiation and financial analysis of project;
-Projects will typically range from 10 to 100+ MW's;
—Assisting in the preparation and approval process of operating budgets;
-Reporting monthly, quarterly and annually on business development progress;
-Managing flow of documents on transactions between subsidiary and First Solar Inc;
-Work closely with the Project Finance team to source project debt and equity;
-Engage regulators, local community stakeholders, utilities, banks, and project investors;
-Represent the company at public meetings about projects and in industry forums;
